Every year on June 21, Cameco proudly recognizes National Indigenous Peoples Day. Our northern Saskatchewan sites celebrated by inviting guests from local communities to enjoy traditional food and activities. Athabasca Catering provided a special menu including walleye, pork neckbones and stew with bannock. In addition to the feast, participants enjoyed displays of traditional crafts, tools and artifacts. Activities included drumming, oral storytelling and Métis square dancing.

Cameco is proud to energize inclusive communities, and we look forward to participating in the Many Colours Pride Parade in Saskatoon on Saturday. Watch for our blue T-shirts and say hi!

This week was the 12th annual Pinehouse Elders Gathering. Cameco was proud to sponsor Thursday’s events, including cooking supper for approximately 450 community members and visitors.

Apprenticing as a pipefitter at Cameco’s Cigar Lake mine has been a perfect fit for Spencer Pacquette. “One of the things I’m really grateful for is working with experienced people on site,” says the product of Fond du Lac. “The people here are really helpful.” #NIPD2024

"I didn’t realize how much I missed the people at site, so when this opportunity came, I felt it would be a great chance to re-engage and be back with family.” #NIPD2024

She pays particular attention to celebrating National Indigenous Peoples day, with programming, traditional foods and fellowship to support the Indigenous culture of half our northern workers. We’re sharing stories from people who are contributing to Cameco’s success. Reay Mackay, a post-secondary student, was awarded a Cameco Northern Saskatchewan Scholarship last fall. After growing up near one of the world's most unique geological formations, the Athabasca Basin, Reay is pursuing his passion for geology at the University of Saskatchewan.
